Santa Maria – 20 October – The young Cape Verdean Matchu Lopes, native of Sal Island just became kitesurfing world champion yesterday in Morocco.

Matchu Lopes snatched the kitesurfing world champion title in the categories Wave & Freestyle Strapless, to win the fourth stage of the championship Global Kitesports Association (GKA).

Thus Cape Verdean kiteboarder Matchu leads the world ranking of GKA. He had already risen to the podium of the “Rate Strapless Kitesurfing Pro 2016” held last July in Spain.

He confessed to be proud to practice in Sal Island with the former world champion Mitu Monteiro.
