The three Senegalese forest agents apprehended in The Gambia by young people from the village of Sare Jawbeh in the Jimara district of the Upper River region (URR) have been released, The Point said. On the other hand a young Gambian remains detained in Senegalese territory.

The case of the Senegalese forest guards held in the Gambia by the police, after being taken to task by young people from the village of Sare Jawbhe, is far from knowing its epilogue. If our compatriots were released, a certain Zakaria Mballow, a young man from Jimara who was arrested, is detained by the Senegalese authorities.

On the Gambian side, voices rose to take offense at the detention of the young man and condemn the release by the Gambian authorities of the Senegalese forest agents.

The Senegalese central authorities should take charge of this thorny affair, free the young Gambian and better promote better cooperation with the security forces of The Gambia, to eradicate the illegal logging of wood in the area, says The Point and reported by The echoes.
