Popular Nigerian reggae-dancehall singer and songwriter, Damini Ogulu better known by his stage name Burna Boy, has been accused as the mastermind of the robbery of the Igweocha (PH) born music artist at Eko hotel recently.
According to a press statement by Acting Commissioner of Police Lagos state, Imohimi O Edgar, On 22 October 2017, Mr 2Kay was reportedly robbed by four armed men in his hotel room at Eko Hotels and Suites at Victoria Island.
The incident took place after he performed at 2Baba’s Buckwyld and Breathless Concert, which took place at the convention centre of Eko Hotel.
After performing at the event, he went to his hotel room to have a change of clothes around 2am in the morning. Someone knocked on the door and claimed to be hotel room service. So when he opened the door the 4 armed men swooped on him and overpowered him and his girlfriend.
2Kay was left with injuries sustain from the robbery. 2kay and his girlfriend were also bound, arms, legs and mouth while the robbers left with his valuables which including gold wrist watch worth 9 million naira, Jewelries worth over 1 million naira, Iphone worth 30800 thousand and two samsung galaxy worth about 500k perfumes, 45 thousand naira cash.
Just 1 week after the robbery incident, Mr 2Kay released a new single “Pray for Me” which was scheduled for a late November release alongside with his forthcoming album which is currently on hold due to the incident his label, Grafton Records has to push the album release date.
On 7 November 2017, Mr 2kay reportedly filed a 500 millionaire lawsuit against the management of Eko Hotels and Suites where the incident happened in October.
Police swooped into action and after reviewing CCTV recordings in the hotel, a girlfriend to one of the gang members was arrested and her confession led to the arrest to the gang members.
The armed robbery gang confessed that Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy through his road manager, one Mr Akerele Temitope, contracted and mobilized them with 50 thousand naira to rob 2kay and give him the beating of his life and to teach the victim a bitter lesson.
After successfully undertaking the robbery job, Burna Boy personally paid them off with additional 50 thousand naira.
Meanwhile, Burna Boy is still on the run at the time of filing this report.
