Msipa compensated white farmer: Machaya

Published

on

The late national hero and former Midlands governor, Cephas Msipa lived a modest life and believed in fairness such that he paid compensation to the white farmer, whose land he occupied during the land reform programme, Midlands provincial affairs minister, Jason Machaya has revealed.

Msipa took over Cheshire, a commercial dairy farm, 10km on the outskirts of Gweru along Matobo Road from Graham Ingle in 2005.

The farmer also produced flowers and passion fruit for export at the 2 100-hectare farm.

Machaya said at first Msipa owned a small farm in Zvishavane and it was the Zanu PF leadership in the province, which persuaded him to acquire a better farm (Cheshire).

“We told him (Msipa) that the farm along Matobo Road was near Gweru and after work, he could easily access it,” he said yesterday at Msipa’s memorial service at Cecil John Rhodes Primary School grounds in Gweru.

“He (Msipa), at first refused, saying he was comfortable with his small piece of land in Zvishavane and did not want to appear greedy in the eyes of the public. We persuaded him and when he agreed reluctantly, he later called me and said he wanted to compensate the farm owner.”

Machaya said Msipa entered into an agreement with the ex-farm owner and applied for a loan from a bank, which he used to compensate him.

He said when the number of students on the CG Msipa Scholarship Trust increased, the late hero applied to the Local Government ministry for authority to sub-divide part of the farm into residential stands to raise funds for the scholarship.

“He told me that since he could not turn away disadvantaged students, he would not want to burden traditional sponsors like Unki and Mimosa mines and other individuals and had decided to sub-divide the farm into residential stands for sell to raise funds for the scholarship,” he said.

“I asked him if he was not giving away his farm, but he said it did not matter, as it was for a good cause and every cent of that project was channelled towards the scholarship fund.”

In December 2013, during a visit by Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development deputy minister Paddy Zhanda, Msipa defended his position to keep the few white dairy farmers in the province.

“It is in the national interest that I said these dairy farmers should remain on their farms. We don’t have to import milk when we have people who are productive. It does not matter whether one is white or black; what we want is development,” Msipa said then.

“I have reserved my comment on this matter, but I might as well make it now. There is no doubt that her appearance is a travesty to our culture. We are told that she will not be wearing a panty. 3 Crocodiles Devour A Zimbabwean Pastor As He Tried To Walk on water

Published

on

A Zimbabwean pastor, Pastor Jonathan Mthethwa of a church in White River, Mpumalamga, Zimbabwe, was eaten alive by three crocodiles when he tried to walk on water like Jesus.
The pastor taught his members faith last week and told them that he shall demonstrate faith today by walking on a river.
His members prayed and fasted for one week and today, the members gathered around the river and the pastor attempted to walk on water.
As he was stepping in the water, three crocodiles out of nowhere came and started eating Pastor Jonathan Mthethwa, ate him up live, leaving only his sandals floating on the river.
The pastor read the scripture but did not read that part where the Bible stated that ‘thou shall not tempt the Lord thy God’
I think it was Jesus that made that comment after he fasted 40 days in the wilderness and the devil came to tempt him.
That is why I like Nigerian pastors, they can not try those stunts at all at all.
Meanwhile, why did the good pastor try his miracle on a crocodile infested river?
Didn’t he see small streams he could have tested his ‘faith’ so that even if the faith failed him, he would have just cleaned the water from his body and asked his congregation, ‘ person fit no joke with una?’
Rest in peace sir.

Published

on

President Edgar Lungu says the victory of the Zambia under-20 is a demonstration that in unity the country has the power to rise above all social, political and economic divides.

Speaking during the luncheon hosted in honor of the victorious under-20 national soccer team at State house this afternoon, President Lungu says the players have brought joy and great honor to the nation at a time when the country truly needs to be united than never before.

He says this is because some people have not recovered from the acrimony of campaigns which nearly destroyed the country.

President Lungu notes that Zambians cheered the team in unity regardless of tribe, political affiliation, color or religion.

He says this epitomized the unity that has existed in the country since independence.

And President Lungu says the achievements of the junior Chipolopolo on the football pitch has restored Zambia’s image as a great footballing nation.

President Lungu further states that the victory has revitalized the memory of the world of Zambia as one of the greatest footballing nations in Africa following the 2012 AFCON triumph by the senior national soccer team in Gabon.

The Head of State has however, cautioned the players to be weary of social temptations that come with their new acquired status and against rushing into signing professional contracts without consulting.

Below is the full speech

YOUR EXCELLENCY DR KENNETH KAUNDA, FIRST PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA;
MY LADY JUSTICE, MRS IREEN MAMBILIMA, THE CHIEF JUSTICE;
MR DAVIS MWILA, THE SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE PATRIOTIC FRONT PARTY;

On behalf of the government and the people of the republic of Zambia and indeed on my own behalf, i am greatly delighted to host our gallant and victorious young Chipolopolo national football team which has made our country proud and put smiles on the faces of all Zambians.

I am extremely grateful to Jehovah god for giving us this historical victory through our young men. We are all happy and fully satisfied with the team’s outstanding performance in the just ended 21st edition of the under-20 Africa cup of nations tournament.

Let me take this opportunity to congratulate our young footballers for winning the cup. Your tireless efforts and zeal to secure this cup is highly commendable and it is no mean achievement.

Your achievement of reaching the finals of the tournament and winning the cup is a significant milestone that has gone down not only in our annals but also in the history of African football.

You represented our country in a manner that a true patriot and gallant soldier of the land would proudly do.

I am happy to note that since the tournament began, you have been consistent and exemplary ambassadors of peace and prosperity in line with my government’s core values.

As your republican president, and patron of the football association, my heart beams with pride to host you. Your achievements on the football pitch has restored our image-as a great footballing nation.

It is gratifying that after the 2012 victory by the senior national football team in the AFCON tournament in Gabon, we have once more conquered Africa in football and this time at youth level.

We have revitalised the memory of the world as one of the greatest footballing nations in Africa. I know the world also remembers Zambia for its splendid performance during the 1988 South Korea Olympic games.

Ladies and gentlemen

The victory and the perfect hosting of the under 20 Africa cup of nations (AFCON) deserve to be commended by all Zambians. We worked together in one spirit under our motto “one Zambia one Nation”. This is indeed a spirit which we always preach and we shall continue with the same spirit under my leadership.

In unity we have power as a nation to rise above all social, political and economic divides like a noble eagle in its flight.

Our champions, the young Chipolopolo, you have brought joy and great honour to our nation at a time when our country needs to be united like never before. Your success is priceless.

As you represented the country in the last two weeks in the just ended tournament, Zambians were not looking at each other based on their tribe, political affiliation, colour and religion. We all cheered in unison epitomising the unity that has existed in our country since independence. This is who we are and no one can take it away from us.

My government through the ministry of sports will continue to provide financial support towards football development and other sports disciplines. This is in line with our 2009 national sports policy that promotes international participation in sport for skills development of our athletes, coaches and sportspersons.

We will also continue to tap talent from the young people from across the country through the promotion of talent identification programmes in order to build sport.

My government believes that in order for our country to progress in sport, there is need to ensure participation of our young men and women in exchange programmes, regional and continental sport events, as this builds the confidence of our sportspersons.

As you prepare for the 2017 under 20 world cup in south korea, i wish to reassure you that my government will provide you with all the necessary support needed for you to be successful.

Ladies and gentlemen,
I wish to also note that your achievement has made all of you household names and this comes with social temptations. My prayer is that all of you will fulfil your football dreams.

Please don’t rush into signing contracts that are being dangled on you but seek advice from your clubs, guardians, parents and managers.

Your achievement is just the beginning of a long football journey—the future is in your hands. Keep away from social vices that can hinder you from realising your football dreams.

As you embark on your preparations for the world cup, i wish you all the very best.

I urge the Football Association of Zambia, the clubs, academies, coaches, parents, guardians and the business community, to continue supporting these boys and create more future stars not only in football, but also in other sports as well.

Ladies and gentlemen

I wish to also thank the minister of youth, sport and child development for leading a formidable team that worked tirelessly to put in place all necessary human, financial and material needs that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) demanded for our country to successfully host the event.

Special tribute goes to the local organising committee led by president of the football association of Zambia Mr. Andrew Kamanga. Once more, the unity of purpose was a key catalyst which enabled you to deliver.

In conclusion, let me take this opportunity to appeal to all stakeholders to support our champions in their world cup preparations and during the tournament itself scheduled for South Korea in May.

I wish to promise you and on behalf of all the other well wishers that we will render our unwavering support to your football career.

MAY GOD BLESS OUR YOUNG CHIPOLOPOLO AND OUR GREAT NATION, ZAMBIA!

Parliamentary portfolio committee urges govt to disband Lands ministry

Published

on

THE Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Lands and Agriculture has recommended the disbandment of the Lands ministry and relegate it to a department in the Agriculture ministry to cut down on costs and avoid duplication of roles.

BY VENERANDA LANGA

The call was made by committee chairperson, Christopher Chitindi, while debating the 2017 budgetary allocation to the Lands ministry.

“The committee recommends that the ministry of Lands should be disbanded and placed as a department under the ministry of Agriculture and the rural component under the ministry of Local Government and this should be effected once the Land Commission is legally constituted.

“The committee noted that there is duplication of work between the Zimbabwe Land Commission and the ministry of Lands,” the committee report said.

ALSO READ   Why Zimbabwe should be your next holiday destination

Some of the observations by the committee were that there was a target to issue out 13 140 security of tenure documents to new farmers by 2019, but by 2016 the ministry had only processed 99-year leases for 138 A1 farmers.

The Lands ministry was allocated $7,6 million in the 2017 National Budget and the Land Commission is still to be operational, although it was allocated a budget of $200 000.

“The committee raised concerns that the Land Commission should only receive funding from Treasury after enactment of an enabling law to set it up.

Other recommendations by the committee were that, in the meantime, land redistribution must be halted until the Land Commission is well established to conduct its audits.

“The committee noted that there will be duplication of work between the Land Commission and the ministry of Lands.

There is a slow process in the issuance of 99-year leases to farmers. There is no clear mechanism regarding how the Land Development Levy should be shared between the ministry and the commission,” the committee report said.

In 2016, some of the achievements listed under the ministry of Lands were acquiring 51 205 hectares of land, fully compensating 12 farmers, producing 135 survey diagrams, reaffirmation of the 140 kilometre Zimbabwe-Botswana boundary, and producing 98 user-specific maps.

Zimbabwe – Woman Caught In Lesbian Act With Tenants 14 Years Old Daughter

Published

on

IN a pure act of le_sbianism, a 27-year-old woman from Somerton suburb in Bulawayo was arrested after she confessed she was “madly” in love with her tenant’s 14-year-old daughter who is in Form Two at a local girls high school.

The youthful landlady Evelyne Nhira’s eight-month romantic relationship with the girl was discovered by the latter’s mother.
This was after she had stumbled upon a string of steamy love messages in Nhira’s phone which the two exchanged.
Circumstances to the busted same se_x relationship as reported to the police are that sometime in April last year at around 4PM the girl went to Nhira’s bedroom looking for matches.

When she entered, Nhira started complementing her saying she was beautiful before stating that she had something she wanted to tell her but could only do so in writing.

The girl reportedly gave her phone to type her “secret” in which Nhira, a mother of one, brazenly revealed that she loves her “so much”. The girl reportedly accepted the proposal.

ALSO READ   Why Zimbabwe should be your next holiday destination

It was proven by the court that on 11 May while in the house, Nhira took a ring belonging to the girl’s mother and put it on the victim’s finger while declaring that they had now engaged and she was now her everlasting lover.
The following day it is reported that while the two were sitting in the house, Nhira kissed the girl on her lips.
When the girl asked Nhira what she was doing, she reportedly apologised saying it was a mistake.

On the same day when the complainant visited Nhira’s friend only identified as Tendai who stays in the same suburb, Nhira followed her.

While at Tendai’s place, the teenager in a bid to apparently provoke Nhira repeatedly kissed Tendai.

In a fit of jealousy, Nhira slapped her once on the face and she sustained some bruises.

It is further reported that sometime in December Nhira, in a bid to cement her le_sbian relationship, bought the girl a present — a cream doll, emblazoned with the words, “I love you”.

In the same month, when the seemingly love struck girl went to Masvingo for holidays she was always phoning Nhira at the same time sending her love messages saying she was missing her “big time”.
The matter however, came to light when the girl’s mother borrowed Nhira’s phone.

She was reportedly shocked when she discovered that the two, Nhira and her daughter, were “madly’” in love.
When she confronted Nhira she also confessed that they were indeed dating.
The stunned mother reported the matter to the police, leading to Nhira’s arrest.

For the offence Nhira appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Manase Musiiwa charged with a crime of performing an indecent act with a young person as defined in section 70 (1) (b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.

She pleaded guilty and was convicted and sentenced to 18 months imprisonment of which six months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
The remaining 12 months were further suspended on condition that she completes 420 hours of unpaid service at Donnington Police Station.

In passing the sentence, the magistrate said the act committed by Nhira was not permitted by the laws of the land.

“The court however, found it aggravatory that the offence committed by the accused bordered along illegality and not only because it was perpetrated on a young person but because it was done within the confines not permitted by the law of the land for that accused and the complainant are of the same se_x”, said Musiiwa.
