Mayhem – Massive Storm Currently Battering South Africa

A massive storm has hit various areas in KwaZulu-Natal a day after Gauteng was battered.

  • To recap, here’s what we know at the moment about the #KZNstorms:
  • Three people have been confirmed dead so far.
  • One was an eight-year-old child who was struck by lightning, while another was a 46-year-old man who drowned trying to cross a flooded river.
  • A third person was crushed when a massive container fell on a car at the Durban port. At least five hospitals have been affected by the storms.
  • Emergency teams have been responding to several incidents of people trapped in cars that have been submerged by floodwater.
  • Many roads remain closed in parts of eThekwini and motorists have been advised to stay off the roads.
  • There are no significant flight delays into and out of King Shaka International Airport at the moment.
  • The SA Weather Service says the storm is expected to weaken later this afternoon.
