Sources from Toukra Journal – a Libyan newspaper – said Saturday that the commander of the self-styled army Khalifa Haftar is expected to order the release of the detained Libyan Deputy Interior Minister Faraj Egayem on Sunday.
The Journal said the release of Egayem was supposed to take place Saturday but Haftar delayed it till Sunday.
The Deputy Interior Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA) in Benghazi Faraj Egayem surrendered in November 2017 to the military police of Marij city under the command of Khalifa Haftar.
Egayem was handed over to the military governor of the eastern region, Abdelrazik Al-Nathori.
Before the surrender took place, clashes erupted in Egayem’s headquarters in Budzera in Benghazi and also in Berses, where he was reported to have been located after Friday’s attack that killed three of his guards and wounded over seven.
He escaped an assassination attempt by Haftar’s forces.
