President muhammadu Buhari has urged the people of Benue to cooperate with the security agencies in handling the stunning issues of the herdsmen in the state and also appealed that they embrace peaceful relationship with the herdsmen.
The president while responding to the various remarks nof the stake holders in a town hall meeting at the government house markurdi, Benue state, he said:
“The governor and I, and others here know that we will leave one day, but the relationship between farmers and herders will continue. I urge you to keep in touch with them and advise them to live peacefully.
Nigeria has over 250 ethnic groups with different cultures and nobody can question God for putting us together.”
Meanwhile the president thanked God for good rain, and also the successful efforts of the Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, an indigene of Benue State, whom he described as “a great asset in my government,”
He noted that his administration would continue to empower farmers with loans by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
He also commended Ebonyi, Lagos, Kebbi, Jigawa state for their good works towards the policy of his administration leading to 90 percent reduction in importation of rice.
In the other hand The Governor of Benue State Gov. Samuel Ortom while Noting that the attacks by armed herdsmen predated the current administration, said the recent attacks had displaced 170,000 people with children of school age constituting 60 per cent.
Therefore he called on the Federal Government to support ranching, compensation for victims of the attacks and rebuilding of destroying houses and farms, as well as the upgrading of the current military exercise to a “military operation.
Gov.Ortom also laid emphases on the rehabilitation of some roads in the state, schools like that of the State polytechnic and college of education.
