apcBenin – Few weeks to the All Progressive Party Congress (APC) primaries for the 2019 general election, a senatorial aspirant from Edo Central, Francis Inegbeneki, has withdrawn from the race.

Inegbeneki, who has earlier indicated his intention to contest the seat, said his decision to step down was to enable him concentrate on a bigger task of returning President Muhammadu Buhari to power.

Inegbeneki, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Benin  City, said, “I have to work with and support Governor Obaseki and the National Chairman of our great  party,  Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, to return President Mohammadu Buhari to Power in 2019.

“As the National Chairman of the party is from Edo State, the state is expected to lead the victory of the president.

“I, therefore, appeal to all my supporters to bear with me and accept my decision in good faith; I thank all for their unflinching support over the years and urge all to support any candidate that will emerge from the primaries.”

He used the occasion to condemn the unfortunate incident that happened in Irrua, where the governor’s convey was attack by hoodlums who hijacked the peaceful protest by the youths in the area and appealed to the governor to temper justice with mercy on all those involved.

Inegbeneki described the allegation by some Esan leaders that he mobilised and sponsored the youths  as wicked , malicious ,and calculated attempt to pitch him against the governor.

According to him, “the allegation is a cooked up story by my detractors whose ulterior motives is to portray me in bad light.

“I will continue to support the governor in carrying out all the laudable projects in turning Edo state into an industrial hub of the nation.”
