The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello of running a clueless government.
The party was reacting to last Sunday’s sacking of appointees and reversal of the decision, all within half an hour.
The party said the governor’s ‘rigmaroled decision’ on a sensitive issue that affects the lives of the people of the state was a hallmark of his administration’s ‘brazen ineptitudeness’.
In a statement signed by Achadu Dickson, Director Research and Documentation, the PDP said the weekend drama had once again reinforced the party’s position that Gov. Yahaya Bello was not fit to govern the State.
The Party noted that the last two years of Bello’s administration had been characterized by inconsistencies in policy making, adding that the weekend drama, had proven once again that the governor was not in charge, and did not have a mind of his own to govern a complex state like Kogi.
The party lamented that “the governor’s past hasty decisions to destroy all roundabouts in the state capital, embark on an endless staff screening exercise, the planned sale-off of government properties, and all the governor’s other inconsistencies in making policies, has shown poor leadership and brought untold hardships on Kogites.”
The PDP described Governor Bello as “a kindergarten governor, whose administration lacks direction,” stressing that “he has no doubt driven the state to a dead end, with his one-chance style of administration.”
The PDP lamented that “on a daily basis, Kogi State now thrives in the news all for the wrong reasons, all because Gov Bello does not have what it takes to govern a Kogi State in this age of technological advancement and sound leadership skills, required of a leader.”
The PDP urged the governor “to bury his ego by tendering an unreserved apology to the people of the state over his leadership inadequacies, lack of clear cut policy, and for making the state a laughing stock in the comity of States.”
Rather than continue with his trial and error kind of administration, where his subordinates call the shot, the PDP called on the governor to seek further knowledge in leadership and governance.
“Without mincing words, Kogi State, the PDP observed, is too big for Gov Bello to manage. The state will certainly be in more trouble if the governor is not replaced in 2019 by the PDP,” it said.
While disagreeing with the percentage payment of salaries to council workers after laying off over 80% of the workforce, the PDP called on the governor to pay salaries of workers in the state.
The party called on the governor “to quickly meet the demand of medical doctors in the state who have been on strike for over two months due to non-payment of their salaries,” describing the rate of death in the state following the shut down of health institutions as embarrassing.
However, in his reactions, the Director General, media and publicity to the Governor, Kingsley Fanwo said “the
Governor didn’t sack any official. It was just a figment of the imaginations of the rumor mongers. So the issue of reversal doesn’t even arise at all.”
According to him, the current crop of officials were committed to the New Direction Agenda of the administration and there was no need to change them.
“Our results in the last 24 months showed that the Governor is working with a dynamic, competent and good team,” Fanwo said.
