The activist community is not agreeing with police and demanding for justice in what they claim lynching. The son of prominent Ferguson activist was found dead, hanged in his backyard earlier this week. But despite the rumors that it was lynching, local authorities have rule that the young man’s death was as a result of a suicide.

However, this is not a conclusion that Melissa McKinnies, mother of the diseased, Danye Jones, is willing to accept. She alleges that her son was lynched after his body was discovered on October 17th. The local activist who has been an integral voice in the activist community in Ferguson, Missouri, and a prominent figure in the protests against the killing of Michael Brown: believe that her son may have been killed because of her participation. Brown is the black teen who was shot dead by a white police officer in 2014, sparking national outrage.

One of the main reasons so many dismiss the conclusion the police is making over the death of Jones, is based on the fact that already three people connected to the Ferguson protest, have been found dead. And all of them killed in suspicious way that have escalated the activism even further.

As Black Star reports, “In just the last few years, three other prominent voices in the Ferguson movement have also been found dead. Police discovered the remains of Darren Seals in his burned-out vehicle in September 2016 and said his body had at least one gunshot wound. DeAndre Joshua suffered an eerily similar fate two years earlier, officers finding him shot to death inside a torched car the same night a St. Louis grand jury declined to indict the Ferguson officer who killed Brown. Meanwhile, 23-year-old Shawn Gray’s body was discovered in a river, weeks after his family reported him missing. Gray was rumored to have been a witness to the grand jury in the Brown case.”

Mckinnies alleges that her son, Jones, did not commit suicide, and in a Facebook post, she gave the details. She even shared some very graphic photos of her son hanging from a tree with what appears to be a bed sheet. Even though the posts were removed by Facebook, some of her followers got the chance to circulate the claims to several social media sites. And this triggered responses that were both full of anger and support.

On Tuesday, Mckinnies wrote on her page, “4:51 a.m. and sick with grief but ready to get up and fight for my baby.”

The police, still insist that the death of Jones was suicide. Ans Sgt. Shawn McGuire said, ““Our crimes against persons detectives investigated the incident and as of right now, based on the evidence and all the information we have, it appears to be a suicide …”

The community who do not agree with the police have come out in large numbers to show love to the family. And even on social media flooding McKinnies with words of love and support.

One person wrote, “Danye is the son of Melissa McKinnies, a Ferguson activist who got involved in her community after Michael Brown’s death,” wrote another. “Authorities are ruling it a suicide & want to brush this under the rug. there’s evidence it isn’t, & we won’t let them.
