Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting who turned down the chance to play for Cameroon at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations was on target against Malawi

The reigning African champions edged past Malawi 1-0 to earn the Dutch coach his maiden win in charge of Cameroon.

Choupo-Moting hit the net for the only goal of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier just on 60 minutes.

The skipper and striker held off two Malawian defenders to score with a powerful effort from just outside the area.

With that lone goal from the former Stoke City man, the Indomitable Lions were able to secure Seedorf’s debut triumph.

The Central Africans who have already qualified for the Nations Cup automatically as hosts have thus moved to seven points.

And that is after three matches in the group while Malawi still remain on three points.

Seedorf and his charges are now set to make the journey to meet Malawi in the reverse tie next Tuesday.

President Biya restates Cameroon readiness to host 2019 Afcon

The President of Cameroon, Paul Biya has restated his nation’s readiness to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

Biya has insisted the East and Central African country will be very much ready to host next year’s continental tournament.

He made the assurances to the Confederation of African Football president, Ahmad Ahmad during a meeting in Yaounde weeks back.

And in response, Ahmad added that Caf has no plans to take the tournament away from Cameroon despite contrary reports.

“President Biya has given us the assurance he will give all to ensure they complete all the projects on time.” Ahmad confirmed.

“This meeting with President Paul Biya was for us to clear the air over recent stories on social media.

“And that is the one suggesting Cameroon were going to forfeit the organization of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.” He summed up.

Next year’s competition will be the first to have 24 participating teams.

And is set to take place in the months of June and July, 2019 rather than earlier in the year.

Ahmad went on to disclose that Caf does not have any other hosts in line for the Nations Cup.

“Caf has no plan B, Caf has never had any plan B.

“And we have have never thought about stripping Cameroon of hosting rights of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.” he insisted.

“It is not Caf that organizes the Afcon, it is Cameroon.

“And it is for Cameroon to tell us whether they are ready or not.

“If they are ready, we will organize the event.

“And if they are not ready, they can ask for more time, it is up to Cameroon and not Caf.” Ahmad concluded.
