Makurdi – Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has that said he may have been warned not to contest the governorship primaries on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He also said he is presently standing on the sidelines and is privileged to choose which political party to further his ambition as governor.

Ortom gave this indication while swearing in the new Special Adviser, Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs (BLGCA), Jerome Torshimbe in Makurdi on Monday.

It will be recalled that at the height of the faceoff with the APC leader in the state, George Akume, the Benue state governor had a week ago sacked, the Special Adviser, BLGCA, Titus Zam, who is believed to be an ally of Akume.

Ortom, who spoke while inaugurating the special adviser at the Banquet hall of the Benue People’s house said, “As for party (APC), I have been given a red card and I’m outside the pitch. So, if I have been given red card and I’m standing outside, I’m a free man.

“So I don’t know what will happen next but I’m waiting. If someone approaches me, then I will tell the Benue people that I’m joining another ‘football club’ (political party).”

The governor, who insisted that no man has the powers to stop him from realising his ambition to return for a second term as governor said, “I’m a child of destiny and it’s only God that will decide what I will be.”

Ortom, who further advised the people of the state to be united, said “We need to come together and not allow ethnicity or party differences divide us.

“So let us work and encourage those things that can develop us.

“Looking at what is happening to us, sometimes I am tempted to think that we are dying like people who do not have God.

“But we must choose the path of working with God, obeying and serving him. If we do that and ensure that his values get into our hearts and we walk with him, development will be inevitable.

“So let us work and encourage those things that can develop us.”

Reacting to the appointment, Jerome Torshimbe, who appreciated the governor for finding him worthy of service, said “I will not fail you; I will give you my best, my all in all.”

The appointee, who believed that Ortom would be governor come 2019, rejected the adage: “If you sink, I sink with you.”

Torshimbe rather said, “We shall cross over.”
