Baxter waxing lyrical about defeating Nigeria

Baxter is already talking tough about beating the Super Eagles of Nigeria in next weekend’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

A valid report from says that he is banking on his players’ keen desire to humble the Super Eagles.

Despite that, Baxter admits the Eagles have top quality stars who can prove to be a handful for any side.

The British tactician is, however, very much optimistic of his team’s chances at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg on Saturday, November 17.

Consequently, Baxter has already started plotting his graph in great fashion prior to the South Africans’ game against Nigeria.

And that is in what will be their penultimate fixture in the race to make it to Cameroon 2019 AFCON.

Nigeria will aim to avenge the 2-0 defeat which the West African nation suffered at home in the first leg.

Meanwhile, South Africa will be looking forward to picking up a win to make a return to the first position.

And Baxter has stated in very clear terms that he is confident his side will achieve their aim of victory.

Baxter said: “Being confident means I trust the players I have worked with, I know they have the desire to qualify.

“They know that Nigeria are a top class team and will also be desirous to get results,” the Briton concluded.

Nigeria survived a late scare to beat Libya 3-2 in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualification match.

That was a Group E match between both nations which held at the Stade Taïeb Mhiri in Tunisia.

The victory has thus taken the Super Eagles to the top of the group table after four matches.

As a result, though, the Mediterranean Knights are still occupying the third position on the log.

The Pirates of Seychelles were looking to avenge the 6-0 dismantling they suffered at the hands of the South Africans.

The momentum was with Bafana in the dying embers of the match but they were profligate in front of goal.

Seychelles, however, remained absolutely resolute in the defense against an attack-minded South African team and ultimately, the meeting ended goalless.
