AKURE – Attahiru Bafarawa, former governor of Sokoto State and presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Monday promised to implement recommendations of past national conferences on problems confronting Nigeria if elected president in 2019.

Bafarawa made the promise in Akure, Ondo State capital, during his visit to leaders of Afenifere, a  Yoruba socio-political group.

The presidential aspirant said the idea of restructuring the country was about development, adding that the concept should be embraced by all patriotic Nigerians.

“We are going to liaise with the National Assembly and the judiciary to extrapolate outcomes of past national conferences and discourses with a view to restructuring our nation to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the citizenry.

“When we are talking about restructuring, we are talking about development,” he said.

Bafarawa also promised to turn around the country by exploring alternative sources of driving the economy.

The erstwhile Sokoto State governor lamented that the Nigerian economy had been damaged, saying only the PDP government could correct the mistakes made by the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

He said: “When we come into power, we are going to take our time to do the damage control. All our ideas are to correct where mistakes have been made. We are not going to witch-hunt anybody.

“We shall de-emphasize over dependence on oil and look towards agriculture, tourism, mining and manufacturing as potential drivers of our economy.”

Vowing to uphold the principle of separation of power, Bafarawa said he would also strengthen the security of the country.

He called on Nigerians to be part of his vision to rescue Nigeria and put it on a path of development.
