Bad Bunny – MIA Ft. Drake

Before us, once again, is another reason to say out loud that “Bad Bunny” is a misnomer. The Puerto Rican trap and reggaeton singer, whose birth name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, never gives you bad vibes.

And in “MIA,” a music video featuring Canadian rapper Drake, we got a lot to hail and applaud.  A lot. It is not for nothing that the video, directed by Fernando Lugo, has got over 19 million views in just 2 days of release.

Sung in Spanish – and this must have tossed Drake from his comfort zone – the song takes us on a love journey between a young man and a lady who happens to have been his first love.

For the benefit of those who do not understand Spanish, part of the lyrics is translated below: “I’m your Romeo, but not Santos/ I would scare these idiots with the .40/ They want me ever since I sing/ But I’m only yours/ I’m your Romeo, but not Santos/ I would scare these idiots with the .40/ They want me ever since I sing/

“But I’m only yours/ Tell them you are mine since high school/ Your mom’s favorite son-in-law/ the guy that had all the Jordans and the Nikes/ Tell these stupid guys to stop giving you likes/ I want this full night to remember the times in the stairs/ Tell them I’m not just some guy/ I am your first, you are my first.

For the record, this wouldn’t be Drake’s first collaboration in Spanish. He had previously collaborated in Spanish with American singer, songwriter and record producer Anthony Santos, known professionally as Romeo Santos, on “Odio.

It has been said – but not yet confirmed – that “MIA” is going to be one of the tracks in Bad Bunny’s upcoming album “La Nueva Religion.Bad Bunny’s previous songs include “I Like It,” “Amorfoda,” and “Estamos Bien.

MIA” should make a splendid weekend treat.
