A’Ibom Lawmaker To Empower Communities With 20 Buses, Other Items

Uyo – The oil rich communities of Esit Eket and Ibeno Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State are set to be enriched with several empowerment items, including not less than 20 buses as lawmaker representing the area in the state House of Assembly sets for a mega rally and empowerment of the people.

Planned to cut across all classes of persons in the state constituency, the empowerment scheme which is said to have been planned with community leaders, to assist in identifying the people’s needs, to make the empowerment worthwhile, is targeted at making the people more self sustaining and empowered.

In an interaction with journalists in Uyo, as part of activities to mark his mega empowerment programme and constituency briefing slated for April 9, 2018, the lawmaker representing the areas, Dr Usoro Akpanusoh also hinted the media of his ongoing scholarship scheme, widow medicare, training of over 70 persons on agro-allied ventures.

Presenting the score card of his activities so far in the house, Akpanusoh who is also the Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation said he has in less than three years in office sponsored five bills, ten motions and co-sponsored 15 bills for the benefit of the people.

In addition to this impressive legislative record, the lawmaker has also held three constituency briefings and interactions to appreciate and empower his people, one of these was used to flag off his N50m revolving loan scheme for women traders and youths of his constituency.

Having embarked on construction and facilitation of not less than 28 constituency projects including construction of houses for widows and less privileged persons in the two local government areas within his constituency, provision of solar powered light and water sources, renovation of schools, markets and erosion control, the lawmaker pledged to do all within his powers to continue to put smiles of the faces of his people.   

“I have sponsored five bills including the bill for a law to provide for regulations of maritime sector operations, fixed offshore oil and gas production facilities (platform) registration for the purpose of generating internal revenue, and a bill for the law establishing the state safety commission and three others”

“I have also co-sponsored a bill for a law to protect the physically challenged persons against all forms of discrimination and to provide equal opportunities in all aspect of living in the society and for connected purposes, a bill to provide for the establishment of Akwa Ibom State Primary Health care development agency and for matters connected therewith and 13 others”.

“Some of the motions I have sponsored include; Revocation of sales of government properties in Uyo Capity city and its environs, flood disaster in Esit Eket LGA, fire outbreak in Uton fishing settlement in Ibeno LGA which rendered over 500 residents homeless, a motion to urge Akwa Ibom caucus in the National Assembly to propose a motion for probe of fraudulent sale of ALSCON to UC RUSAL in 2004, major oil spill emanating from Exxonmobil facility in Iwokpom, Ibeno LGA and five other life touching motions”.

He said as Chairman, Finance and Appropriation committee of the house, that he has constantly ensured that every appropriation bill, in line with the policy of the sixth assembly is subjected to public hearing to get input from various sectors of the state’s publics to ensure that whatever is appropriated, directly impact on the lives of Akwa Ibom people.
